Westley Richards is one of the oldest surviving traditional English gunmakers. It was founded in 1812 by William Westley Richards. Their inventions included the Anson & Deeley boxlock action and the Droplock, which equals in status James Purdey's self opening and Holland & Holland's removable locks. They were the producers of the Enfield rifles, the British Army standard for many generations.
One of the Westley Richards guns is on public display in the gun room at Sandringham House in Norfolk, the home of her Majesty the Queen and her family.
Prized by shooters and collectors throughout the world, the unique patented Westley Richards hand detachable lock (droplock) side by side action is supremely built for ease of use and maintenance in the field. The hinged bottom plate allows the locks to be removed from the action for cleaning or, in the unlikely event of failure, replacement.
