Designed, engineered and manufactured in New Zealand! It's new unique, an approved service rifle, but most of all its the best!
It's the GBC ABYSS SP-i (Straight Pull-ignition) Series II V2 service rifle, chambered in .556/.223 Rem.
The GBC ABYSS SP-i Series II V2 service rifle is a completely new rifle from the ground up, it incorporates a newly designed upper and lower receiver, bolt carrier, bolt assembly, bolt catch, ambidextrous extended magazine catch, barrel, pull charging handle and knob, all of which have been designed specifically for the GBC ABYSS SP-i rifle.
This is a straight pull bolt operated rifle that's spring loaded. Whereas, the bolt when it's fully charged backwards, then released, the forward returned motion of the bolt picks up a round chambering it, ready for ignition. The straight pull charging handle is reversible, meaning the charging handle can be fitted to the right or left hand side of the upper receiver, the rifle is also fitted with ambidextrous safety and ambidextrous extended magazine catch.
The GBC ABYSS SP-i Series II V2 service rifle comes fitted with an alloy free float aluminum handguard, A2 style pistol grip, VLTOR IMOD butt-stock and all are fitted with a mil-spec trigger, ready to shoot in service rifle matches. It is finished with a hard-anodised coating on the aluminium parts then painted Titanium Grey using high tech Gun Kote, giving the rifle the looks and feel it deserves.
These rifles have been designed to fit and use the Magpul PMAG 10 round magazines (steel magazines should not be used.) No magazine(s) are included with rifles.
The GBC ABYSS SP-i Series II service rifle weighs in at 3330 grams, this allows 770 grams for optics, which more than cover the weight for the scope of your choice remembering the total weight for service rifle is 4100 grams.
Rifle Information
Lower Receiver: Designed, engineered, and manufactured completely in New Zealand from solid billet 7075-T6 aluminum, the lower receiver is specifically designed for the ABYSS SP-i Series single shot rifles. The lower receiver features a single centered pivot lug, (compared to that of any mil-spec lower receiver having two outside edge lugs), this makes it impossible to fit any type of mil-spec Upper Receiver to the ABYSS SP-i Series Lower Receiver. The ABYSS SP-i single shot Lower Receiver is also dimensionally different to that of any other Lower Receiver on the world market. The Series II ABYSS SP-i Lower Receiver has had minor presentation updates milled into it, but most importantly now embraces an "A" cut into the receiver, standing for the brand name of ABYSS.
Upper Receiver: Designed, engineered, and manufactured completely in New Zealand from solid billet 7075-T6 aluminum, the Upper Receiver like the Lower Receiver is specifically designed for the ABYSS SP-i Series single shot rifles. The Upper Receiver features the reverse of the Lower Receiver, in that it has two outside edge lugs, again making is impossible to fit any type of mil-spec Lower Receiver to the ABYSS SP-i Series rifle Upper Receiver. The ABYSS SP-i Upper Receiver is dimensionally different to that of any other type of Upper Receiver on the world market. The ABYSS SP-i Upper Receiver also incorporates a cut out slot on the left hand side of the Receiver so the charging handle can be reversed. The Series II ABYSS SP-i Upper Receiver has also had minor presentation updates milled into it.
Bolt Carrier: Designed, engineered, and manufactured completely in New Zealand from 4140 steel, harden to 45rc, then black nitrided, these are unique to the ABYSS SP-i Series rifles being smaller in diameter and shorter in overall length than any AR/M4 bolt carrier, they have no expansion chamber cut-out incorporated into the carrier, which stops anything other than single shot firing. The cam slot on the carrier has been re-designed and re-engineered, it's silky smooth with the locking and un-locking of the male bolt lugs from inside the female barrel extension lugs. The Series II ABYSS SP-i Bolt Carrier has under gone minor modifications.
Charging Handle: Designed, engineered, and manufactured completely in New Zealand. It's reversible on the carrier, so to accommodate Left or Right handed shooters. It's held into place within the slot cut into the carrier with two high tensile screws. The arm is bent at 40 degrees downward and is fitted with a Acetal grove shaped knob, 21mm in diameter.
Bolt: Designed and engineered completely in New Zealand, the bolt is unique to the ABYSS SP-i Series rifles, for a start it doesn't have gas rings, the shaft that normally carry's the boss for the gas rings has been milled down, removing the gas ring boss completely leaving the shaft at a desired diameter to now act as the bush inside the carrier aligning the bolt dead center within the carrier itself so the bolt male lugs fit perfectly in the female barrel extension lugs.
Bolt Recoil System: This Item is all new to the Series II ABYSS SP-i Rifle. This now comes as a single one piece designed, which includes the Rod Shaft, Spring, End Cap & Buffer Cushion all held together, makes stripping the rifle so much easier.
Bolt Catch: This is another new item for the Series II ABYSS SP-i Rifle. With the bolt carrier being shorter in overall length and smaller in diameter along with the bolt carrier having a shorter stroke, Gun Supplies had to completely re-designed and engineer a new bolt catch the would fit the ABYSS SP-i lower receiver. The ABYSS SP-i Series II Bolt Catch has been milled with easy accessible touch pads cut into the design making it easy and faster to release the bolt (Rifle photos yet to show this)
Barrel: Yet another new item for the Series II ABYSS SP-i Rifle, is the European Manufactured Cold Hammer Forged Steel Rifle Barrels with a 1:9 twist, these are supplied as blanks, the barrel is contoured/profiled, chamber end is threaded with a 13/16" thread for the barrel extension, set up the head spacing, the muzzle end is also threaded with a 1/2-28 thread for a muzzle brake or suppressor. The standard barrel length is 16 inches which has a Light to Medium contour for the ABYSS SP-i Series II SERVICE Model Rifle.
Ambidextrous Extended Magazine Catch: Designed and engineered completely in New Zealand for the ABYSS SP-i Rifle with 3 of the 5 parts that make up this catch manufactured overseas to keep costs down.
